Memorable scenes included Otis stealing the farmer’s car for a nighttime joyride, throwing a milk bottle at a cow crossing sign, a barn party where Bessy and Daisy gossip about disloyal bulls, Freddy in a therapy session over his bird-eating urges, and Pig “working” in the mud. The soundtrack featured songs like Albert King’s “Crosscut Saw,” “Let Her Go, God Bless Her” by The Louvin Brothers, “The Lineman” (also used in SpongeBob SquarePants), and “A Number of Microphones” by Propellerheads, plus a demo of “Barnyard Bop.” For years, the Barnyard Test Pitch was considered lost media. The full recovery came in January 2024, when YouTuber LiveDJRock acquired a VHS tape via eBay and uploaded the short to YouTube and the Internet Archive, a milestone for the lost media community The pitch directly influenced the film, with scenes reused in the teaser and animatics.
