I've seen kids make slime with their glue at lunch and then not have any glue. Just let me keep it for them.

I'm a middle school teacher and I don't trust any of my kids with supplies

Shooot of o was a teacher I will let them keep it all at their desk and when they lose it ask the parents to buy more weekly. Since they want to complain go buy more when your kid won’t take care of it.

Hold on, I only graduated about 10 years ago. When did we start doing community supplies? And when did we start acting like kids can't be responsible for their own stuff

My 3rd grader will have 3 pencils, an eraser, and an expo marker in her desk. Everything else is in teacher control, as it should be.

Nah. Kids don’t need access to any of that unless it’s a very specific activity for a very specific amount of time

We had a plastic pencil box with all of our supplies and we kept it put away in cubby/desk. It was never an issue. Supplying a “community bin” when some people don’t contribute to it at all is wrong. If the teachers/schools want community supplies then they need to be providing it, not parents who are barely making ends meet as is.

The community bin is so much easier too. Many teachers are switching to tables to eliminate messy desks. There isn’t enough time to be cleaning them out several times a week. Kids are shoving food and wrappers in their desks.

My students will literally drop their pencil on the floor and instead of picking it up, will go to the pencil bin and get a new one. Will literally step on the one they drop to get a new one. And they wonder why we ask for a gazillion on their supply lists.

The people who are complaining about the school supplies should just homeschool their kids cause baby y'all worried about the wrong thing

At that age I was more worried about getting back home so I could play on my DS than about my school supplies. Teacher taking them and only giving them out when kids need them is so much better cause I would have lost all that stuff so quick.

Kids lose pencils really easily. They lose glue caps really easily. They spill water in their book bags and their folders get soggy and rip. They go to afterschool and pull everything out and lose it there. Some kids lose or use up their things faster. YOUR kid could be the one going through their supplies faster.

I think the problem is parents send their kids with all the supplies they need and a month later they saying they don’t have pencils

I don’t know what happened to these kids… we kept all of our supplies… the art room had “communal” stuff… everything our parents bought stayed with us, in our backpacks, lockers, or binders…
