dude the breaking promises to yourself….nail on the head. I betray myself every time I decide to secretly drink. The shame is unbearable

i KNOW im a functioning alcoholic but its almost like i dont care because in my mind i’m not getting the shakes and physical withdrawals so therefore i dont need help yet. i know it makes no sense. i hate being self aware

It’s nice hearing someone with a similar experience. During active addiction I was able to do good in school, work, and socialize. I did risky things, but was blessed enough to never get caught. But my depression was getting worse and I didn’t want live anymore. I’m 3 months sober and the happiest I’ve ever been now tho. AA was the best thing to ever happen to me.

I’m this way too. I have to now face everything full force. Every situation or every event I’m at - I have to feel it all. No more shutting it off with alcohol. I’m 4 months AF. So I get it. I’m just like you - just wanting to escape my own mind.

I drink bc of the dopamin rush due ti adhd but after i start drinking more often, i lose the rush so i stop bc its not fun anymore. I think i might have a small issue with alchohol but i control it and i am pretty proud if myselg bc u was in a bar on saturday and everyone was drinking beer, i had two sodas and went home. My friend offered me many times (she also has an issue) and i said no every time. I went home pretty proud of myself…

Thank you for talking about not hitting this deep rock bottom. It makes it harder to accept that you are an alcoholic, and it is what kept me drinking.

I can totally resonate with this. The concequences creep up on you slowly. In the depths of addiction, you pretend that you would have done this or said that anyway. Like no, you were not in control of your life and are just lucky it wasn’t any worse!!! Quitting alcohol is the best gift anyone can give themselves. ❤️

I’m 28 also, I’ll be 29 this year and I want so badly to break out of this pattern but it is scary. I don’t want to let myself or family down again for failing 💔

i retired from drinking when I was 28 so 4 years ago. i was always told by my guys i took it to far when i drank i didn't gaf. my pregame was 2 tall boy twisted teas a 12 pack of busch light then i would drink another 18 pack of busch light. then woukd need more and thats in a 6 hour period. i would black out. but in 2021 the morning after the super bowl i woke up after blacking out i walked out to my counter saw all the beer bottles from myself and knew the end was near then on 4/19/21 i got realky wasted at volleyball and was a ticking time bomb all night then that night it ended next day i went and found a meeting. here i and 4 years later i lost 60 lbs. lifes great. i live a life of peace and enjoy being alone
