I gave my mother the benefit of the doubt bc she had the crappiest childhood, was groomed at 13, had to drop out of school in the 6th grade bc her parents forced her to work, spent 16 years in the most awful marriage where her husband cheated on her (and even with her sister) and she was abused for years on end even while trying to leave. He wouldn't let her have friends, have a phone, talk to anyone outside his family. She never had the chance to fully mature or really live life and grow. She was 36 by the time she was free from him. She has trust issues, abandonment issues, and she's scared. I made the exception for her and only her.
