After actually paying close attention and actually LOOKING I discovered that even after removing all the slimy leaves, at least half of the remaining leaves are always plastered with bug eggs. The nice firm flat ones get the orange-yellow brown eggs on top of the leaf that are very small but easy enough to find if you look and the more curled leaves have iiiiiiity bitty tiny little round white eggs in clusters (crown mites). Those are so tiny I can promise unless you held each leaf to your eyeball you missed them and ate them. Seeing as I refuse to hand scrub every single leaf one by one anymore for the tiny ones and the bigger ones on the flat leaves won't come off with wiping, I will no longer be eating spinach.
