@gradeon37: Idk just my theory about what MIGHT be happening. Seems like it’d be human nature, which sucks to admit, but it would make sense. #pokemontcg
People have to stop buying from scalpers and the market will go back to normal.

Scalpers are paying the people that stock them and employees are buying them out as well

In SoCal people stalk the restockers and notify everyone they know when they’re restocking so if you’re not there the minute they’re restocking, you’re not getting anything.

Target doesn’t stock any of the TCG cards or sports cards. Local vendors come in and do it. They have strict rules about selling the cards. The stockers aren’t allowed to buy any stock either.

my question is why is distro apparently charging card shops and retailers more than usual?

Also I think distro is charging more to smaller places. I waited outside my local place and when they opened they revealed the ETB’s were $80

Something weird is definitely going on. There are also discord groups for this kind of stuff too like restock alerts

I genuinely dont understand why people are still buying from scalpers, if we just stop buying for like a month or two theyre gonna lose profit and stop doing it?? like just stop fueling their reason??

I think it depends on the area. I saw a ton at msrp here but I see so many say they couldn’t get any..

It is a good theory, and I'm not saying it doesn't happen. But with a 3rd party vendor managing stock of cards within the physical Target, individual employees don't really have that level of control.

I think more and more vendors are back dooring Pokémon. one cause they’re not being held accountable and two they’re making bank doing it.

100% whats happening, tons of scalpers have full sealed boxes of product. Average scalper doesn’t have disruption deals so them receiving sealed boxes is impossible, they’re buying off the middle man that receives these sealed product boxes straight from distributors for stores or businesses

My friend works at my trusty MSRP buy place. He let me know they got a shipment of prismatic in. The employees never put em out, I checked for two weeks.

People in my town are talking about the restock lady that’s restocking 3-4 Walmarts around, and she’s calling people to follow her.. Walmart might not even be able to do anything about it because it’s a 3rd party restock

It’s mostly vendors. I work at target and most of the time the vendor shows up on random days and “coincidently ” the same 3 guys show up about 5 min after she gets there. We used to keep it behind guest service and the system was beautiful but target said no and now kids/that come in looking for it I have to tell them it sold out by the same 20 guys each week.

im not an economist, im just a weirdo who likes to learn about these kinds of things, but it is the kind of thing that happens a lot during niche market booms. the more people that see there’s “money to be made” in the market, the less there is to go around, until the market gets stressed to the point of crash. collectors are seeing retail prices creep up, and it’s beginning to make the primary customers stop buying sealed products at all. gamestop and people finding $130 ETBs at Ace hardware is just the start. eventually we could have a lot of people who thought they could turn a quick buck, sitting on a bunch of shiny cardboard they don’t want and can’t afford to hold. the proliferation of rip n shippers, paid discords, and other speculative behavior in the hobby is just a catalyst for it, and an example of the auxiliary markets that develop during this kind of boom.

There’s actually a lot of corruption going on. I heard there’s people that are air tagging the MJ holdings trucks to follow them around. In addition people are literally getting part-time jobs at Walmart and target to take all the football cards and the Pokémon cards and yes people at the stores and the delivery people are also getting paid off
