In most cases you'd be better off investing the $10 dollars a day in a S & P mutual fund. You'd have $323,500 dollars in 23 years. You could pay mortgage balance of $175,723 and still have $147,777 in your investment.

You forgot to mention that the extra payment should go against the principal balance otherwise bank will automatically apply it to their interest

Consider also a 20 or 15 year loan. You get a lower interest rate and save hundreds of thousands in interest as well!

Pay down in 2 years. Hopefully refinance to lower interest, then 100$ extra every 2 week and pay off in 15 years. We did a 30, refinanced after 2 paid off in 11. Cancel mortgage insurance after meeting 20% value. Lot of money wasted on MI.

We’ve always over paid to get it down sooner. But we also watch rates & remortgage where can do get better rates when possible. Last time we did it & got in before rates went up. Got in at 2%! Friend bought a house a week after us & got in at 4.5 rather than 6%. She was happy until she found out the rate we got lol.

My husband has less than $2,000 on his car left and he got it last year, (used car) so he will own it outright at the end of this year. 💜

Just take your monthly payment without escrow, divide it by 12 and tack that on each month. Be sure to specify towards principal only!

Tried this. Banks are hip to that. For me, doesn't matter how often I pay, they won't apply the payment until it reaches a "full" payment amount, so it saved me nothing.

So, my $2,700 payment is only $3,000 per month -- plus property taxes and insurance premiums? Oh, joy.

What if we split our mortgage every 2 weeks AND pay an extra $10. How much interest would be saved and how will it shorten the term?

But make sure that extra money is going to principle and not interest or interest plus principal. Some mortgages you have to specify the extra money is for principal only

as long as your lender doesn't have pre payment penalties. most mortgages today are amortized but some dont allow for this. do your research before people!

Use that extra money to pay down any debt over 6%. If you have credit cards you’re paying over 25% 😵😵😵
