I have been too cheap to get one of these but i probably should get one. I still have a perfectly good thermometer with two ovenproof probes that have stainless steel coated wires. It's not as handy to just quickly check temps.

Some consumer program ages ago made the very logical exercise of cost per use. I think something very time-typical like a fondue set was the most expensive and microwave and pots/pans/knives the least expensive per use. For me, this is my thermapen. I have used it more or less every day for years. It’s so great it gives me a little bit of happy-boost when I get to use it.
