@therapistinrecovery: Might also be due to the fact that most of us grew up in chaos from childhood trauma but who’s to say 😅 #anxiety #ocd #obsessivecompulsivedisorder #childhoodtrauma #therapistsontiktok #anxietydisorder #therapistthoughts
I go straight to problem solving skills in crisis. My emotions are on hold. Everyday anxiety-inducing issues are completely different. I fall completely apart.

We handle it in the moment and then crash.

YES. But I also feel like it's because the possible scenarios that our anxiety makes up are usually way worse than what an actual crisis would be. So it's like we've already prepared mentally for something worse.

Yes, I'm an ACOA. Grew up in total crisis and chaos 24/7. I thrive when work is super busy and hectic, and have been successful. But when life is still or work is still I feel scared and restless

What you are saying makes absolutely so much sense to me. When we have a crisis, there could likely be a problem to solve. Being great problem solvers, I think that trying to “figure out” the crisis may take less time and overall intensity of the feelings/emotions can decrease because we aren’t stirring and stirring. However, I know with me, the longer I try to figure something out that is not solvable, my anxiousness increases in time and intensity which makes me sit in rumination longer and I tend to sit with more confusion and frustration in my brain, which then becomes a vicious cycle. I try harder to solve the unsolvable. Another contributing factor is that many crises occur suddenly, and our brains and body do not have a chance to build that anticipatory anxiety, which generally can lead to more discomfort sooner. Not sure if this makes sense to you, or if it only makes sense in my neurodivergent mind!

Because it’s like “I’ve been training for this! Put me in coach!” 😂 It’s like how someone asks the hulk how he learned to control the anger and he goes “I don’t. I’m always angry.” OCD therapist and OCD lived experience here 🙋♀️

Yep, that's why we make the best first-responders. We remain calm during emergencies.

💯 on “regular” days I often feel in overdrive where when in a true crises I can almost become calm? It’s as though my anxiety finally has something concrete to attach to. Thanks for this- very helpful!!

Yes! I have adhd (medicated) and generalized anxiety (not medicated) and the day to day anxiety is there but I am not anxious in an emergency and I do great in a lm emergent situation
