I think this narrative is so crazy. American basketball is still head over heels the best basketball. Also IF YOU want to do this man then don’t preach this student athlete bs. I just saw Canada take the bronze medal with the mvp and 7 real nba players. But USA basketball is in shambles right? When the 2008 redeem team only best Spain by 8 (yes that had Kobe Bryant) where was the worry then?

why doesn’t this one thing get talked about: in america there are soooooo many teams and leagues that even kids that are gonna end up just being decent D3 players get to dominate and have the ball in their hands the entire game. any kid with any skill in america can find a team where they’ll have the entire offense ran through them

For this to work all 30 teams would have start youth academies with teams for kids ages 5 to 18.

The US can’t mimic European club teams and player development the NCAA isn’t going to give up all the money it makes from men’s college basketball also college basketball teams already have the infrastructure in place which saves NBA teams money. College basketball programs should follow the club model not the student athlete model

American youth sports focus on winning. Euro youth sports focus on development. We’ve seen this plaguing US soccer for decades and now it’s being very prevalent in hoops

High school and college sports is a western (mainly North American) practice. In Europe / majority of western countries, the integration of sports with education (ie the “student-athlete”) is non-existent, which allows for all of these FIBA pro clubs to incorporate youth programs (U15, U12 etc) as well. Won’t be easy to create the same infrastructure in the U.S.
