@bumbasee.mp3: 58 vs 57, what’s the difference? Finally I own both so I could bring you this dumb guy review. At least through the phone audio, I felt the 57 comes through cleaner on my voice. Looking forward to trying it on more stuff #audio #microphone #audioengineer #musicproducer #shuremic #mic #sm58 #sm57 #producer #contentcreator #irig

The 58 and 57 have the same capsule. The grill on the 58 makes it sound just a little bit different. Ps. I went to the Shure factory for microphone training twice

The 58 is better for low end capture. 57s are great for micing hihat /snare setups

There very different, the 58 is a vocal mic which is why it has a round head, the 57 is a directional mic designed for amps, and instruments

Yeah the only difference is the built in pop filter on the 58, take that off and it’s the exact same mic

I used to work in a repair shop and had a conversation with a technician at Shure once. He told me that the capsules are exactly the same and during the testing process the brighter ones become 57s and the flatter ones become 58s The ones that don’t pass for either become the cheaper lines.

I have to be super careful recording vocals with the 57 because it so easily picks up pops from ps and ts. But I love the way it captures guitars running through amps.

Sorry this is slightly off topic. But what is the interface you’re using? Does it hook directly to your iPhone?

they have the same capsule and circuitry so there frequency response is exactly the same. The only thing impacting frequency is the pop filter on the 58 which is why is sounds muddy bc it takes highs off
