Sartorius is Latin for tailor. Bc tailors would often sit in fully shortened position of that muscles. Hip flexion, hip ER, and knee flexion

this is exactly why i always excelled in anatomy. any subject really. memorization helps but truly understanding from the roots up will stick so much better! and unlike memorization gives you transferable knowledge/skills.

Achilles tendon is my fav: named for Greek hero. His mother held him by this part of his body & dipped him into the river to make him invulnerable. As a result of this handhold, his heel was his only weakness as it didn’t get wet during the dipping. This single weakness was eventually the source of his eventual downfall and came to mean a weak point.

Acetabulum refers to “vinegar cup” because they thought the hip socket resembled one of idk why they had so many cups of vinegar but that’s none of my business.

Ok but can we also talk about the Greek/roman terms that are so old the references don’t land anymore? Acetabulum? We don’t drink straight vinegar anymore let alone have a special cup for it. Fibula? We don’t need super long pins to hold our clothes together anymore.

Another one is the pia mater, literally translates to “tender/pious mother” because it holds the cns tightly. All the meninges are forms of mother translated originally from Arabic

Sorry but that "mental" one is incorrect: referring to the chin it just comes from Latin "mentum" (meaning "chin") which is not related to Latin "mens, mentis" (meaning "mind") where instead "mental" in the sense of "relating to the mind" comes from.
