At the hostels you stay in I recommend getting breakfast, cause a lot of the time there are bread rolls and me and my friend packed lunch from every breakfast we had which saved us sooo much money

i interrailed straight after sixth form too!! my musts are a travel diary, foldable tupperware & cutlery, a padlock (a code one, not a key one!), eye mask & ear plugs ofc, flip flops for hostel showers, kindle rather than physical books if you like reading, compression packing cubes, a “day bag” (uniqlo cross body bags are great!), microfibre towel, & some sort of plastic/sports bag so you can store any wet bikinis/clothes away from the rest of your clothes!

foldable tupperware if your planning on staying in hostels and cooking! can store sandwiches and pasta rather than buying stuff when ur out and about. I also took a little folder and put all metro tickets and memorabilia in there which was good so i didn’t lose any keepsakes

Make sure you have printouts of everything you can, or important things details written down on paper. Don’t trust that information you need will definitely be accessible on your phone! Set up Google Backup codes and have the codes written down or printed out in case you lose your phone and need to get set up on a new one. Backup codes work as a last resort if you can’t confirm a login attempt on another device.

Sleeping sack! Was a life saver for hostels which didn’t feel super clean, and it’s a plus as you know where it’s been etc. electrolytes were a life saver for long hot travel days too

I did 2 interrais, it’s important to realize that some things are gonna go wrong and you can’t plan everything, it’s a must to be able to solve problems the come along rationally, there must be room for spontaneity, never underestimate the value of the friends that you make along the journey, sometimes they are life savers, other times you’ll have the funniest and most random night of your life

bring a little cup that you can use to fill your water bottle with, we had a little pair of scissors with us and used it to cut up a plastic bottle into a cup because when we had to fill our bottles from taps some of them are so awkward!

I remember being on long journey on a packed train in northern Italy that had many stops (before and after my destination), and it was hard to see the platform names we were going through. I managed to get off at the correct stop, mainly by asking fellow passengers for help. If you find yourself in that situation, it might be a good idea to keep an eye on your location on Google Maps or similar (making sure you have regional maps downloaded in case mobile internet reception isn’t working). Just a thought!

Print out train tickets/reservations! Most conductors will take phone ones but in case you’ve no service or your phone dies it’s better just to have it. No service happened to us and they had to come back later to scan our tickets 😅
