mass migration has been the primary driving force in demand for housing for the last 20 years

Not the only factor. There's a lot of reasonably priced houses in the UK, but no one in Gen Z wants to live in the countryside or small towns. Only so many people can live in London and Manchester.

According to birth rates the British population is declining, so how is it possible houses are in such high demand? I wonder how?

La Piskera :
The rising cost of houses in London and the UK can be attributed to a combination of factors, including high demand, limited supply, and the growing pressure of economic inflation. These elements contribute to the overall scarcity of affordable housing, pushing prices higher.

I recon we should let the population of a large city into the country each year and give them all free accommodation. Should solve the problem

I swear if we earned the percentage they did back then with inflation. Minimum wage would be around £55 an hour.

That’s not really true there are more than enough houses we don’t need to build a whole lot more but corporations hold onto empty houses to artificially raise demand and prices

Idk about the UK, but in the Netherlands we’ve a similar problem and looking at the historical charts, solving the supply problem doesn’t solve the price problem. The maximum borrowing capacity compared to the housing prices go hand in hand looking at the charts.

Rising prices anywhere wether in commodities or houses/land is due to monopolies both in land and businesses, monopolistic business owners or monopolistic landlords, the amount that we have currently is sufficient (even tho the quality of it sucks)
