nothing on my marriage license states it's a contract with God... it's a legally binding contract with another person to link your lives together.

marriage is not a religious thing, plenty cultures have marriage including ones older than christianity. it’s a legal contract to solidify lineage and inheritance- that’s it. if you remove the legalities it is exactly the same as dating.
