@wealthwithtess: 5 things I’d NEVER do with my money: 1️⃣ Paying an advisor what’s called an AUM fee (assets under management fee) can cost you thousands of dollars. 1% feels rather innocuous but over time can cost you a huge chunk of your retirement. You can learn the basics yourself easier than you think and save hundreds of thousands over time (or hire a flat fee advisor). 2️⃣ Annuities and IUL’s are often riddled with fees and complexities and in many cases not suitable for many people. People that sell these types of products are often positioned as advisors but they are actually sales people who get commission off these products. Insurance is important and there are exceptions, but you must be 100% sure what you are buying and why. 3️⃣ Picking random investments in your 401(k) can lead to high fees and lower returns. You need to make sure you are investing appropriately for your age...meaning that if you are young, you can afford to take more risk and get a higher reward. 4️⃣ Waiting until you’ve paid off all your low interest debt (7% or less) takes away from your ability to invest in the stock market and grow your money faster. We’ll talk about this more in the workshop. 5️⃣ If you’re not healthy, it’s hard to make smart financial decisions. This is not the place to be frugal.
