Did 10 days in Japan and purposely avoided all the stuff I saw hyped on the internet. I had the time of my life and didn’t want to leave. There’s so much more to see when you’re not chasing internet likes.

dont listen to the people dogging on golden gai. its good for tourists. maybe there are more “local” places around but unless thats specifically what youre looking for dont worry. unless you speak japanese you will likely have more fun in the drinking environment popular with tourists

your a few years too late. all the tourist spots are over packed. you have the same idea as thousands of other people. I honestly hate it's this way now. I went in 2019 and it was perfect, I went this year and it was overcrowded as shit.

I had a great time in golden Gai, and got to chat a lot with the locals because I speak Japanese. I definitely felt really welcomed and they all bought me drinks and even put me on the aux.

Golden gai is a tourist trap now lol. The best bars and izakayas are the random ones you stumble into. Avoid anything advertised on tiktok.

golden gai was terrible when i went. got catcalled and followed, the bars were all full (all tourists) and the drinks were more expensive. Had so much more fun at local izekayas and jazz/vinyl bars.

Hit the second floor spots in GG man, those are the best ones. First floor are a lot of overpriced traps, but one random bar was in a Franz Ferdinand video
