I’m 54 now. When I was 12 we were fishing on the Mississippi River and hit one of those and it almost sank our boat. I told the good Lord that day if he would allow me to get off that river that day that I would never get back on it. He did and I kept my word.

One of my friends from childhood drowned in an underground suction pool like this. He was pinned in place. Very very dangerous and no way to get out.

Worked that river from end to end for some years.. It’s a monster. It’s beautiful on the upper end. The lower has no locks/dams… It’s wide open below St Louis.

Mighty Mississippi carries lots of secrets in those murky waters. I respect that river and refuse to ever get on those waters. She isn’t something to mess with especially growing up right in New Madrid where the fault is.
