get a soft rope that's long enough to ho down the stairs twice, tie one end to the basket at the bottom, fold it over the top of the banister post where it pokes out and stand next to the basket and pull..this will cut the weight in half and put no strain on yr back because ur not lifting anything

If u fold them upstairs. Just use a clean laundry bag and hoist them up with a rope over the railing.
