I've always wondered what makes the Great lakes so dangerous, anyone have some good resources to learn?

since there's roughly 6-10k known wrecks (either missing or recorded)in any of the 5 lakes imagine how many arent known due to records lost to time, they weren't recorded for some reason, etc. The slideshow was neato.

Yo can you make a vid about shipwrecks near Mackinac island? I know of 3. The Peshtigo, the Elva, and one other barge near the east break wall.

Imagine being small compared to the ocean but not knowing/ finding any traces of these ships after so long.. just wild yet we found the titanic and lots of other ships in an ocean but can’t find ships in a damn lake

if your like me and love to binge this stuff Big old Boats on yt covers great lakes shipwreck history and other ocean mysteries. Ocean Liner Designs is also a great channel but he covers ocean liners! also Brick n Mortar is another great wreck channel, he covers pretty much ALL stories that have to do with shipping and wrecks. 💙😄

They’ll find the Clemson soon I think. The Bannockburn idk I believe the boiler explosion and that was a catastrophic sinking may never be found, or at least identified. Griffon I think has been found and not ID’d. But who knows 🤷♂️

I had a great-great granduncle who worked on the Bannockburn. He was a teenager and was allegedly on board when it sank. I hope they can find the ship in my lifetime.

I live in the Keweenaw an hour south of Copper Harbor. We get shipwreck pieces on our beach.

I think the first photo of the D.M. Clemson was the second one that sailed from 1917-1975. She helped rescue some Henry Steinbrenner survivors. I think the plaque she received is now in Marquette.

If you like stuff like this, there's a book called Ghost Ships of the Great Lakes by Dwight Boyer-fascinating read.

so the DM Clemson probably went down in a very similar way to the Fitzgerald is what im getting. the parallels are scary when you really think about it

Beautiful Disaster :
Crazy how many of these wrecks were intentional. These ships were worth more in insurance claims so they'd pay some old drunk captain a couple bucks to accidentally run into them and sink them. 😔
