Hello! me and my husband are owners of two pythons! we are new to this. we got them 06/18. the male BEL (Casper) was born in January 2025 and the female Ivory (Lumi) November 2024. we had to break the no handling cycle due to seeing mites on them on the 3rd day of having them! we have removed and currently are treating them for mites. They’re in quarantine rn. We were told to feed them sooner duo to this. The female python is more shy, the male seems quite comfortable. she has refused to eat she last ate 06/11 according to the shop we bought her off and the male ate without a problem at all. Any recommendations or corrections is appreciated because it seems like the people we bought them from. don’t really know much about them as they failed to mention a couple of care instructions that we’ve been noticing after doing our own research. Also we were told to clean everything and put the substrate that we bought from them (it’s coconut husk and some “mix” they said they make themselves ) in the freezer to kill any mites. it seems like the mites did come from the substrate that they provided us…. And Do we restart the no handling process? Should we feed our pythons rats that are live or frozen? are we able to buy them frozen or do we have to kill them and freeze them ourselves? If so, how do you do that?
