In 2011 or something I was part of this SMALLLLLLLL fandom, and the way to go was be part of the facebook group the author created and read the chapters and if I happen to let chapters accumulate it was a PAIN to find where I stopped

I just wish it was gatekept better ngl, I think a lot of people only consume fics and some don't know how to be thankful of the fics posted for free. Also I want to kudo a fic I love more than once, let me kudo per chapter, I need the authors to know I want to eat a certain scene.

Those of us that had to navigate FF.net, AFF.net, mediaminer, livejournal, early Wattpad, Tumblr, just EVERYWHERE and without really good filters. All of those places were fine but AO3 has been amazing.

only way I can use ao3 is if its a direct link to the author or story😅 love it but struggle with it sometimes. occasionally I attempt the filters but its 50/50, 100% user error tho... im spoiled my bad

AO3 is so easy to use. I love being able to filter things that make me uncomfortable or specific tags I don't feel in the mood to read. Sometimes I like reading wholesome fics, and sometimes I love reading darker stories. I legitimately cannot use Wattpad or FF.net anymore because not being able to filter content that I don't want to see is honestly not worth the effort. Also, some of the tags these authors use make my reading experience sooo much better. Like, wym an author can just tag 'Burn so slow you'll get them in the third degree' 😩 I love it

At that point why change a dress to make it fit? If you dont like it use something else like when ao3 crashes I use Tumblr, websites can host fanfics ither than ao3 😂

You have the power to censor anything and everything you dont want to see. thats the whole point of the tagging system. i dont know why people are so pressed, its a prime example of ‘you get what you get and you dont get upset’

Fr, I used to read in Fanfiction.net, Wattpad, YouTube and DeviantArt. The day I found out AO3, Wattpad had begun was in it's early stages of becoming monetized and I was desperate to find an alternative. AO3 was like discovering the Library of Alexandria, the filter system was a dream and since then, I have not gone back.

i hate how people dont get that if it werent for the archive warnings then youd be flashed with content you dont want to see!! ive been exposed to stuff i DIDNT want to see because there was no "exclude underaged" or "exclude noncon"!!!!!

Once you learn how to use ao3 it’s quite possibly the EASIEST site to use. I don’t want censorship or an algorithm, my filtering system is golden and if I miss a tag or read something I don’t like I EXIT THE FIC AND FIND SOMETHING ELSE!!! It’s that easy 🥰
