@the.fallenpoet: This is what cognitive dissonance feels like: When your heart stays in a place your mind has already outgrown. You know it’s not right. But you’ve invested too much time to walk away without grief. So you keep pretending you’re okay. You keep defending the version of them that only exists in memory. You love them. But you don’t trust them. You miss them. But you don’t like how they make you feel anymore. And the more you stay, the more pieces of yourself you lose trying to make it work. You start apologizing for your needs. You lower your standards just to feel close again. But real love doesn't make you feel like you’re hard to love. Real love doesn’t require that much suffering to stay alive. You convince yourself that staying is loyalty. But sometimes, staying is self-abandonment in disguise. Because what you’re calling love— might just be the fear of letting go. And the day will come— when the pain of shrinking will finally outweigh the comfort of staying.
