🎥 Here’s what I wish I knew when I started filming: 1. Use your camera’s base ISO: This gives you the cleanest image possible with the most dynamic range — check your camera model to find out what that base ISO is and try to stick to it, on our Sony ZV-E1 the base ISO is 640 and 12800 for low light. 2. Shutter speed = double your frame rate: If you’re filming at 24fps, aim for 1/50 shutter speed, 30fps 1/60, 60fps 1/120 etc. It gives you that natural motion blur that looks cinematic. But remember you can always experiment with shutter speeds to get creative looks. 3. VND filters are a must for daylight shooting: Without one, your footage will be way overexposed — especially when sticking to that double shutter speed rule. Go for a good quality VND filter that fits your largest lens thread, then just use step up rings to fit it to your smaller lenses. 4. Manual white balance > auto: Auto WB shifts around mid shot and makes colour grading a headache. Set it manually or use the camera’s inbuilt presets for consistent color. 5. B-roll & cutaways bring your story to life: Don’t just film the main scene — get close ups, textures, movements, hands, details. They make a huge difference in editing and make you content more interesting. 🎬 Bonus Tips: +1. Avoid shooting in Log if you’re not ready to grade it Log looks flat straight out of camera and can take time to get right in colour grading when your starting out, if your not ready to put in the time don’t commit to it yet. When you do shoot in Log, make sure you expose properly. On our Sony we shoot +1.7 over exposed to get the cleanest results and monitor the histogram for clipping highlights — underexposing ruins Log footage fast. +2. Static shots are underrated Not everything needs a gimbal or camera move. A clean, still shot with great composition can be more powerful than movement. +3. Polarising (CPL) filters are magic They cut glare and make oceans look crystal clear, landscape greens richer, and skies more dramatic — especially around golden hour. 📷 shot on @Sony Alpha ZV-E1
