Destiny islands mostly symbolizes the realm of Light. The light of childhood, the place of departure, depicting perfectly how the world seems so bright and full of lights as a kid. It connects with kairi’s grandma story in which the Light survived in child’s hearts. Even more considering theres a door connected to infinite darkness in its center. Showing that, as kh1 said, the brightest light can be found in the deepest darkness, and the darkest abyss can be found in the brightest light

I always thought the second island wasn't an island, but the mainland, where the place that we see is an island that the kids made their own. A hangout spot.
