@almafrancisheyliger: As a Senator and a survivor of gun violence, I carry a dual perspective, both legislative and deeply personal. While I support awareness efforts such as Gun Violence Awareness Week, I believe we must go further. Our territory is home to hundreds of unsolved murders, and each one represents a grieving family still waiting for justice. We cannot continue to observe commemorative weeks while turning a blind eye to the pain of those left behind. I know this firsthand. The sound of gunfire still triggers me, and the unresolved murder of my brother is a wound that never fully heals. We don’t need more ceremonial bills or symbolic gestures. We need real, results-driven solutions, resources dedicated to solving cold cases, supporting survivors, and preventing further tragedy. Justice delayed is justice denied.
