GRWM as I DNFed my 12 mile training run this weekend. Back in 2019, I remember a bunch of runners were big mad about a 60K race that I DNFed between the 18th and 21st mile. I wrote a blog on my now, almost fully rebranded website, Running Fat Chef, called "How to Gracefully DNF." There's a stigma to DNFs, and I think of it as a successful failure when you're able to remove pride and admit that today is not your day. People assumed I was an undertrained, plus-size influencer looking to exploit cheap pity with a click bait title. Conversely, I was in pain from similar issues that took me out this weekend: my sacroiliac joint inflammation and sciatica. Sometimes, we assume the worst when we see someone bail out. When we see a larger sized person or a person we write off in our heads as inadequate, unqualified, or "inexperienced" compared to the stereotype in our heads, some anticipate the gotcha moment. Here's some things to take with you: ● Why does it peeve you? ● Are we owed someone else's performance? ● Who taught us that a temporary setback is a permanent blemish? ● Are we only as good as the last thing we've done? When I share my stats that I'm terrible of keeping up with, I tend to share that I'm a 31x marathoner, 300+ race finisher, triathlete, duathlete, 8x ultrarunner, powerlifter and 10x DNFer. Owning my story empowers me to review, revise, improve, and grow. Amazing stories are filled with twists, turns, low points, and climaxes. It's not supposed to be linear. Let the "failure" fuel your glow up - even if this is now your 11th DNF. 🫣 Cheers to a fantastic day with @ESnellDesign 7 miles and my 10K. I'm looking forward to this weekend's race: Grete Gallop 10K.
