No... You will only learn the products that the dealership has, not all makes and models.

I was blessed to live near a community college with some leading auto program tech in the country. $8k 2yr program and we get major discounts on tools while we’re in school. UTI is a waste of money, but I have heard lots of good things about community college to kinda give you a head start on the rest of the express guys

If the dealership is desperate enough you will skip express go straight to a year long apprenticeship and make you flat rate with no prior experience, ask me how I know

You are basically right. You made valid and great points. If I could erase 52 years and start over it might be a route I would take. I did 90% of what you mentioned (never worked in a dealership but was offered many times) and instead of being an asset their choice was use my talent and hire less experience at hire rate...so I quietly quit. Now the shops I left don't do half of what I did to make them money and they lost the fallback fix it all guy.

Started in the trade at 29 because WTH not when you don’t wanna work in plants or warehouses anymore. Started out as express, 2 years have gone by and I made mainline in January for Honda. Been a hell of a ride!

I worked at a dealership for 4 months, I went to trade school instead of highschool so I knew a lot. They had me doing bitch work for the first month, refill fluids, tire changes, ask the master techs if they need anything. Took them 3 months to let me do my first brake job, when I was very qualified to do the work. After I did brake jobs, suspension work, simple shit. They didn’t treat me properly and under paid me HEAVILY, wrong dealership choice on my end. Don’t choose the wrong dealership or you’ll hate your life and feel stupid😂
