I recommend you to live in Bandung, Yogyakarta, Surakarta, or in Malang. For travellers/expatriates, not only these places are similarly rich with culture as in Bali, but also the living cost in there are cheaper than in Bali & their climate is tolerable than Bali (especially Bandung & Malang.. their famous cool climate has been comfortable for Europeans since the past eras)
