@corkylorenz: How to avoid faded tie dye results next time. This is how I prep my shirts most of the time, with soda ash. This is for use with procion MX dye. Fiber reactive dyes for cotton, rayon, hemp, and linen.
I like to reuse my soda ash water, and just keep a bucket with a lid that I add too when needed. Great info that beginners need to know!

I might lean towards the level of PH of the water before you add the soda ash. Like hard water has a high PH. Hard water typically has a pH level above 8.5
