You failed to declare the goods you were importing into Morocco. This situation could have been avoided if you had simply presented yourself to customs and declared the merchandise.
Normally, in such cases, customs would issue you a receipt, which you are expected to keep until you leave the country, especially if you are just transiting.
Having travelled through several customs around the world, I can say the rules are clear and consistent: it is your responsibility to check the importation regulations of any country you enter. In this case, I do not see any extortion; the Moroccan authorities were simply doing their job.
Furthermore, taking photos of officials at the airport is considered unlawful in many countries, including Morocco, just as it is in the United States.
I often see people making mistakes, then turning to social media to complain and stir up public sentiment. This creates misinformation and unfair narratives, rather than taking accountability for personal oversight.

this happened to my friend last year. she had her work laptop and her personal one and they told her she was only allowed one(??) they then told her she had to pay $2k USD for the work laptop. her job told her to let them keep it and they had IT deactivate it once she was on the flight back so they couldn't use it🤭

Unfortunately Morocco is strict but it’s their laws..you were lucky to get an exemption ..and technically buying in duty free doesn’t mean you won’t pay taxes.. idk if you did declare in the USA the bag but you could have a big amount to pay too
