Pepe’s Italian & Liquor is an Italian restaurant on Exhibition Street in Melbourne’s CBD. It’s easily one of Melbourne’s most beautiful venues, inspired by the bars of 1920s New York. Every winter, the space transforms into a cosy Italian ski chalet, complete with snow, skis, a custom built sleigh and a special cocktail menu. ❄️ You can choose to dine in the main restaurant or the outdoor garden courtyard, which feels especially magical at night under the fairy lights and heaters. 🔥 Pepe’s Parlour has also just been renovated to include a stunning glasshouse dining area and martini bar, inspired by London members’ clubs. Here they serve a separate lunch menu before switching to their regular menu for dinner. ⭐️ Eggplant Mozzarella Soldiers – thick, crispy, well seasoned, with a satisfying cheese pull and spicy sugo.
⭐️ Steak Tartare – big on flavour and portion, with a creamy hit from the goats curd.
⭐️ Spicy Rigatoni Vodka – their signature dish that’s been on the menu forever. Perfectly cooked with a nice spice level, plenty of sauce and such a generous portion that it’s definitely one to share. I expected it baked in a cast iron skillet but that’s only at lunchtime. They even offered to replace it and make it that way but it was already on the table and still looked absolutely delicious.
⭐️ Fries – skin on and perfectly crispy. I’ve visited a few times over the years (even back in its Trunk days) and it’s only gotten better - generous portions, friendly staff and a menu and vibe that’s hard to fault. Perfect for date night, a friends catch-up or pre-theatre dining. It was packed on a Friday night, so booking is a must! ⭐️ 4.8/5 💰 $$$ Have you visited?
