20,000 BLACK MEN JOINED THE MARINES DURING WW2. THEY WERE TOLD THEY'D NEVER BE REAL MARINES. In 1942, the Marine Corps was the last branch to accept African Americans. 20,000 Black men volunteered and were sent to a segregated training camp called Montford Point, North Carolina. They faced racism from their own side before they ever saw the enemy. Worst equipment. Hardest labor. Told they'd never see combat. They proved everyone wrong. Montford Point Marines served in the Pacific — Saipan, Guam, Peleliu, Iwo Jima. They unloaded ammunition under enemy fire, drove supply trucks through kill zones, and when the fighting got close, they picked up rifles and fought alongside white Marines. After the war, most received no recognition. Their stories stayed buried for decades. In 2012, Congress finally awarded the Montford Point Marines the Congressional Gold Medal — the highest civilian honor. 20,000 men who were told they didn't belong proved they were Marines in every sense of the word. Their story deserves to be heard. Share this. #USMC #bootcamp #marinecorps #marine #semperfi #MilitaryHistory
