I just did this today and I hate they charged me tax even though it was gifted. It has to be gifted by immediate family to qualify as a gift.

Always tell them you bought it for less. If you can. Because if you paid higher than what their total value is, they will charge you a higher amount in your taxes. It’s ridiculous and honestly, it’s taking advantage of people. So if you buy a car, Cash always tell him I bought it for $500. That way you are praying the lowest price in taxes.

Thank you for the information, I’m buying my daughter her first car down there in Dallas TX. I’m in Georgia so I’ll be flighting in to do it on the weekend. Question, did you need insurance on the car at the time of going to the title office? And where do you go to get it inspected at?

If you have insurance you can pay $30-35 and get a 30 day unregistered tag that will give you time to work on getting the vehicle to pass inspection-emissions testing
