mcdonalds will call the cops on teens in the parking lot, other parents usually dont want kids in their house, parks have age restrictions, malls are closed

Do you have teenagers right now because they can’t go to the mall without a parent and if you hang out in a parking lot, the police come for loitering . People hate teenagers and call the cops basically anytime they’re hanging around.

malls are dead, parents can be overly strict, if a group is together in an area, they get blamed for anything that happens in the area (ex- graffiti).

Malls are dying, businesses don't want teens loitering, urban sprawl has reduced corn field, farm parties. Plus the destruction level of teens now means they are more seen when they gather

All the malls around me have a chaperone policy for any one under 17. No point in a license if I need my parents there to be there when I go. Also, getting banned from so many place makes us want to stay at home.

parents more than ever are monitoring theyre kids and making sure that theyre okay. we cant just hangout at a park because most kids parents think something will happen. so usally the only option is another kids house. and even my parents don't like that too much

Not to mention this is also the generation that went through/is going through constant mass shootings at school which may he causing some social anxiety around just hanging out in public.

everything is too expensive, I'm a teenage girl and I went to the beach with my mother and full grown men were following me and my sister when we were walking with my mom and taking pictures of me and my sister from behind while me and her were both minors, we went to the park and had to leave because homeless men kept following us around

Everywhere is so expensive. For me, a movie ticket was less than minimum wage. For $2.22 I could a small cheeseburger meal at McDonald's. Gas was around $1/gal. It was way cheaper to leave the house with a min wage job.

one of the malls here has a youth escort policy. they get turned away. I work at a touristy place and it has the same thing, but I rarely see in enforced.

Malls are closed/closing, restaurants call the cops for loitering in the parking lot, Karen moms at the park call the cops thinking the teens are up to no good, and more parents 1) refuse to let their teen's friends come over (noise, food consumption, "stop being lazy and go outside", etc) and 2) refuse to let their teen go to a friend's house because "I don't know where you are, I don't know their parents, you could be drinking or doing dr*gs".

Lets see, parents monitor us 24/7 we cant go most places solo, my local mall requires most teens to be with an adult, people hate us. We cant go to restaurants because we get bad service because “teens dont tip”, adults don’t want us at the park. I as an 18 year old just yesterday got told off by an old man to “stop swimming without your mother, where is she?” And i was like sir im an adult. Like im at the beach!!!!

We’ve been talking about the lack of 3rd spaces for forever. I’m 39. My kids are 20, 15, 11, and 8. The kids DON’T have the spaces to hang out the way we could. Full stop. Loitering in a drivethru parking lot?? Someone would call the cops…for real.

Everything is expensive. No one wants teens in there stores. Food is expensive, video games are expensive, I’ve been kicked out of stores for looking around and not being able to buy anything. We can’t go anywhere anymore.

I think part of it could also be that parents are tracking our every move. We can’t just get up and say “hey I’m going out with *friend* and staying the night there” and go do whatever while we’re out. I’ve been yelled at for going to my friends house when her dad was in the hospital many times. When I first went to college, my mother literally called me every time I left my dorm building that wasn’t at the time I have classes. I will literally just be going to the grocery store and I’ll get a call getting yelled at because I didn’t tell them I was leaving my own house, not theirs. The reactions of super strict parents are sometimes enough to take the joy out of literally everything. Yes I know I’m technically an adult but I’m also technically a teenager whose parents are paying for my education so I’m not allowed to turn my location off.

Like literally where am I supposed to go. Nobody hires teens so we don’t have money to go to the mall or bowling or whatever. Most of our parents don’t want us inside or at other kids houses, parking lots get cops called on us because we are seen as a nuisance.
