In March 2025, nearly two dozen House Republicans sent a public letter to House Ways and Means Chair Jason Smith urging the preservation of key clean energy tax credits from the Inflation Reduction Act. Many of the signatories, especially from the Southwest and Midwest, represent districts where wind, solar, and battery investments are growing, and they recognize the importance of keeping those incentives. Trump, of course, didn’t listen. But it’s just as misleading to paint the entire Republican Party with one brush. Even the Trump administration is making permitting reform a central follow-up goal to the BBB, imposing deadlines, reducing NEPA burdens, and fast-tracking infrastructure approvals. So shouting that “Republicans are against clean energy” ignores what’s actually happening. I don’t like the GOP, but I’ve been in their offices, they know clean energy isn’t going away, and many want to push it forward.
