The bird "turkey" is named after the country Turkey, not the other way around. Initially, traders brought Guinea Fowl from Africa to Turkey, and these birds were then exported to Europe. When Europeans encountered the North American bird, they mistakenly believed it was the same type of bird and began calling it "turkey" as well.🙂
