🪴VISIT MY SHOP OR CLICK ON MY LINK IN BIO FOR THE CUSTOM SOIL MIXES I USE ON MY PLANTS Repotting a rootbound houseplant can be a nerve-wracking experience if you don’t know what to do. Add in root pruning to the task and it’s scary. Here are a few easy steps on how you can successfully get it done. Materials: -Rootbound Plant -Coconut Husk -Perlite -Pine Bark -Coconut Coir -Expanded Clay Balls -Pot Instructions: -Start breaking down the coconut husk by either tearing it apart or soaking it with water to expand and then tearing it apart. Also add coconut coir or peat to the mix. Both of these products will allow the soil to hold extra moisture. -Add in some perlite, pine bark and expanded clay balls to provide drainage and aeration to the mix. -Mix all the components so that they are evenly distributed throughout the mix. -Grab your pot and fill it with just enough mix so that the top of the root ball of the plant will be at the top of the new pot. -Remove the pot from your root bound plant and with clean pruners remove from the bottom of the plant no more than 1/3 of the rootball. This process is called root pruning. -Loosen the roots a bit more if necessary. -Place the plant in the pot, making sure that it is centered and that it doesn’t sit too deep or too shallow in the pot -Continue to add potting mix all around the pot while slightly compacting it to keep the plant from falling over. -Water your plant to get it hydrated as it starts its new life in this pot. -Place under bright indirect light. Additional Tips: With a well-draining soil mix you may have to water your plant more frequently, but you will almost eliminate the risk of killing them by overwatering them because the water will quickly flow through the pot and prevent the plant from sitting in water for long periods of time.
