YES! My wife and I are 12 weeks preggo and this couldn’t be more accurate 👌🏼 our donor pool shrunk sooo much once we found out I was CMV Negative! 😩

I was CMV negative and it really did narrow down the choices majorly - but I would NEVER risk it and go against the advice to stick with a negative donor. I’m really shocked some of these comments are suggesting to do so! 😩

You DO NOT have to find a CMV negative donor as a negative person. There is less than a 1% chance of CMV being contracted from washed, frozen donor sperm. My wife is a physician and we’ve done IVF, RIVF and IUI. There is a much higher risk of contracting CMV while pregnant (as a negative person) from a sick toddler. We’ve used a positive donor for 2 (pending our 3rd child) and zero issues (we’re both negative). It’s incredibly and highly unlikely from donor sperm. Your clinic will just make you sign a form saying that you acknowledge the less than 1% risk.

NO. There has NEVER been a case of a women contracting CMV through IVF and use of a sperm donor. Literally never happened. Most fertility clinics no longer require a negative donor for a negative carrier. It’s outdated, but occasionally still done out of an abundance of caution

We choose the PERFECT donor and they just so happened to be CMV positive. The only thing we had to do differently is sign a disclaimer that there was a SMALL risk of contracting CMV. We now have 2 beautiful healthy little girls! I feel your clinic was not clear on this unfortunately. You do not have to have CMV negative donor as a CMV negative recipient.

I got CMV DURING my fertility process. My frozen donor was positive and I had no idea what that meant. Everyone tells me that it likely wasn't from him but tell me how two weeks after my IUI I ended up in the hospital with CMV.

CMV and genetic carrier testing! My wife who is carrying first has not genetic carriers and our first donor have 3, we didn’t think it mattered. But eventually I want to carry, so I did the testing and sure enough the 1 have he has as well. We had to start our search over while also looking for a cmv - bc she was + and I was - 😩 exhausting

We just started the IUI process a few months ago and as a CMV- girlie, this has been the most validating post I’ve seen. So many tears and frustrations around finding a donor.

My clinic didn’t tell me anything about CMV. I looked it up myself and just made sure the donor was CMV- but I’m not even sure if I’m neg. They didn’t test. We did IUI. I had to find an Rh- blood type tho because I’m a Rh-. Finding a donor with the features we wanted with those credentials was very hard. We found 1 vial. I’m still in my 2WW too.

Luckily if you are just doing IVF and not IUI you don’t have to worry about this at least that what our clinic told us. But if you are doing IUI then 1000% have to worry about this.
