@hubermanlab: Most everyone has heard the advice to take a walk, ideally in nature, whenever we need to reset our mind. Dr. Marc Berman, a professor of psychology and neuroscience at the University of Chicago, has actually run experiments on this approach and finds that, provided you do it without looking at your phone and you pay attention to your surroundings, the specific fractal patterns present in nature—fractals are naturally occurring repeating patterns at different size scales—can potently restore your ability to focus. During the podcast we also discuss things you can do for your indoor environment to make it more conducive to focus and relaxation. If you’re interested in increasing your focus with behavioral tools, the episode covers a variety of science-supported tools known to be effective for this—yes, “take a walk in nature,” but many other tools as well.

Look at your dog differently. See your dog walking you - instead of you walking your dog. My dog 'Buck' is my 'spirit guide'. He walks me.

I always feel better when I have a view of nature, flowers , trees, etc, I think it’s the beauty aspect of it , wouldn’t that be more serotonin than dopamine though, although the two do work together

Yes yes yes to this. With exception to bad vibe trails. Sometimes a particular nature spot feels spoiled or off in some way and that just makes the anxiety worst

I do one small task that I know I can accomplish and that gets me excited about the rest. I think it's worth noting that sometimes if you really can't concentrate on something it's because it's not your thing and you should find something that you feel excited to learn more about. something that gives you energy back

The experiment behind this is striking: after a walk in an arboretum, backward digit-span scores improved about 20% — the same walk along busy city streets didn't do it. Natural scenes restore directed attention; traffic and signage spend it.

Amazing how something as simple as a walk can reset both mood and physiology — our brains were built for movement and nature.
