I think this take really oversimplifies what arakawa was trying to say with Scar's story. the point was that his actions were not ACTUALLY about justice or helping his people, he had a wanton bloodlust that started to spread to innocent parties, or at least, parties that should've been innocent to him (not us)

scar wasn't wrong with his ideals, but he wasn't going about it the right way. what he was doing wasn't gonna end up changing anything, especially because father was still out there. he would need to completely destroy EVERYTHING about the country, including people who had nothing to do with the destruction of his people in the first place

I think the point was that his attacks were too untargeted and not aimed at the true root of the problem at first, meaning that he wasn't really helping anything and "continuing the cycle of hatred". however that being said, execute all fascists.

lowkey the only real bad things he did in bh is accidenatly killing Winry's parents and aptempted murder on Ed + kind of Al when they had nothing to do with this. 03 is a bit more complicated tho...

people don't understand that whole obviously one person cannot dismantle an entire regime, the next best thing is to disrupt is and he very effectively did that meanwhile 'let's work to better the system from the inside people like miles and mustang got nowhere like scar was doing a good enough job the homunculi had to go after him and he didn't even know about their plans or anything he's so goated

What Scar did was NOT right, but the military’s actions weren’t right either. Yes, the Ishval war was a brutal tragedy, but Scar wasn’t fighting for justice. He was fighting for revenge. By doing so, he attacked all alchemists and innocent civilians, which only caused his hatred to spread. Only through letting go of his anger was he able to move forward and make an actual difference. Scar wasn’t even the only one who had to give up on revenge. He is the one who talks Roy out of killing Envy.
