The funny thing is that they’re only avoidant when with secure and anxious partners. Pair them with another avoidant or simply someone who doesn’t care about them or love them and they become the anxious ones, the chasers, the givers … they say all the time that they want someone to love them like their exes never could, and when they get that form of secure, unconditional love, they run. Staying when they shouldn’t and leaving when they should. A pity, really.

I have been avoidant. Avoidants would do everyone a massive favour including themselves by communicating RIGHT AT THE BEGINNING of the relationship or friendship that they do not want to feel smothered, called, texted constantly or feel pressured to socialize. If you are avoidant, but love people just not all the time- JUST SAY SO. It will save everyone from feeling hurt, misunderstood, people ghosting each other. But the problem is that I think avoidants lack the courage to be completely honest and upfront. They would rather do the big song and dance and then get the inevitable ick and then ghost.

Stage 5- my avoidant never left himself but he did things to make me leave every single time. Withdrew, went cold, very slow to respond, cancelled plans…a lot.
