I feel like I'm one of the few people who chose to save the town. For me it felt like the whole game the universe was trying to kill Chloe and fix ever but max wasn't letting it happen. Saving the town and letting chloe rest just felt right even tho I was sad.

As someone who picked Chloe because I was roleplaying a teen lesbian who could not loose her first love, I was 100% ok/fully understood why they were broken up. Them not lasting did not surprise me and honestly the fandoms response is truly what surprised me. I don't get how people really thought they would make it long term after everything that went down.

there was absolutely no need to add a realistic version of what could go down with them. because the story in itself is unrealistic. time travel isn’t realistic. people say that people were mad because it’s their ship but you see real life is always there, we know how things happen in real life and stories are an escape from it, a place in which maybe things that are unlikely to happen can happen. for instance, the comics treated their story with such respect and with so much love, the idea that their love is so strong that they were connected beyond time and space. in real life, that doesn’t exist. but within their story it did and it was beautiful to see that even if it’s an unlikely scenario.

So for me it’s not even just that Max can’t move on, let go, live with the grief, and move forward. It’s that choosing Chloe over the Bay in the first game, against Chloe’s own wishes, is the first sign that she won’t do this. That was the whole point (or one of the points) the narrative of the first game was hammering home with all its repeated lessons about Max using her powers rather than choosing acceptance, and in choosing Chloe against Chloe’s wishes and faced with all the consequences of her constant meddling with time, Max is actively refusing to grow and progress and let go or grieve, and that clearly does not get better over the years. Chloe is exactly right, and Chloe’s continued existence is proof of it. The breakup made perfect sense.

In Double Exposure Max’s arc is her learning to face her trauma and move forward. In fact moving forward is seemingly the theme of the game. Max not being able to move forward with her time with Chloe and the destruction of Arcadia bay or death of Chloe. Safi not being able to move forward with how her mom was with her. Vin not being able to move forward with his situationship with Safi . Almost every character has something they are failing at moving forward with.
