my flex when I was a kid, is beating the game in the Japanese language without the internet, the way I need to go in every corner and npc just to progress the story. 😆

I got stuck in one of the cities in Earthbound because I didn't speak English and didn't know what to do. Nowadays I know Giygas and I'm glad I didn't get to the end of the game back then, it would have traumatized me lol 😂

I ain't gonna lie. I used gamefaqs all the time. As a side effect, going through hundreds of pages of txt really improved my reading. I didn't like reading at school, but reading those gamefaqs guides made you appreciate good writing.

as a kid I would bring a notepad to the bookstore and flip the guides to write what to do next in order to progress the story if I were super stuck.. and yea JRPGs were magical back then

I went thru ff7 without dying once. And then I got to the last fight with Sephiroth, had an epic 30 min battle and then I got wiped. Reloaded the game, backtracked out the final dungeon and went to grind. Came back and beat him in 3 moves. Haste. Quadra + Knights of the Round. Mimic.

This brings memories... I'm from Mexico, 30 years ago only the private schools had English classes... Playing video games at that time was stumbling blind or learn from the game, we though ourselves languages with video games... 😅😅😅
