I think folks forget that he’s in a point in his career where he’s making music for himself. Music that he likes and he wants to hear. He’s not making it to fit some country mold or appease everyone. He’s never going to restrict himself to just his voice and an acoustic guitar again and that’s okay. Personally, I’m ecstatic to hear experimental country music. Country music that sounds different and doesn’t insist upon itself. It’s new and refreshing and I’m ecstatic to hear him make music he wants to make.
