175,000 people die annually from heat related causes in Europe where in America it's just ~1,800 maybe America is just right about drinking water and air conditioning

I’m confused why so many europeans are in these comments so revolted that americans drink a lot of water? If you are all good with drinking less water, that’s all well and good, but why do you have a problem with other groups of people drinking more?

maybe that's another reason those heatwaves in the UK kill so many people compared to the heatwaves in The States 🤔

It’s marketing. Americans have been sold cups by big brands. Only started 15 years ago. Humans don’t need all this water.

Also why wouldn't juice and broth count in towards water? They're mostly water. I don't think my body cares if I have my water with a bit of (sugar free) strawberry taste in it

I don't think it's the salt, cuz you can look up salt consumption by countries. US really isn't that high compared to a lot of European countries. It's genuinely a pretty moderate consumption of salt

The American diet is, in fact, not higher in sodium content than most European countries. Many of the countries with the HIGHEST sodium content are European countries. Serbia, Croatia, etc

The US does not consume significantly more sodium than Europe and less than some European countries the US also on average does not eat significantly more sugar than Europe Ireland consumes more sugar per person

as German: thats just wrong. 1.5 litres/d is the adviced MINIMUM. Not the optimum which depends on weather, activity level and individual factors.

I used to not drink much water, and got it through coffee and soup and stuff.
Then I ended up in the hospital because my kidneys couldn't cope.
So yea, now I drink a lot more water.

I moved to Australia from Europe. There’s lots more public drinking fountains here, it’s saved me so many times. Most people I know here will have a bottle they take everywhere, because you likely will always find a place to fill it
