Japanese food is definitely overrated. Apart from the fresh ingredients (you can call it fresh, or just unprocessed), there is almost no skill (or exaggerated skill) from the chef himself, and in my personal experience, Japanese food is definitely not as good as Vietnamese and Thai food, let alone Chinese food.
