@drterrysimpson: Malcolm-Jamal Warner, an actor best known for his role as Theo Huxtable on The Cosby Show, has died. Warner, who was 54, drowned at the weekend while on holiday in Costa Rica, local authorities said. He appears to have been caught in a rip current while swimming at Playa Grande on Sunday in Cocles, a town in the province of Limón, Costa Rica's Judicial Investigation Agency said. Warner played the son of Bill Cosby on the hugely popular US sitcom from 1984-1992. Tributes swiftly poured in from celebrities, including Questlove, Jennifer Hudson, Taraji P Henson, Jennifer Love Hewitt and Magic Johnson. Authorities said bystanders rescued Warner and brought him to shore, where the Costa Rican Red Cross tried to treat him, but he was declared dead at the scene. He is survived by his wife and daughter. #doctor #safety #health #tips #breakingnews Dr Terry Simpson

DO NOT PANIC! I worked with my daughter when she was learning to swim about not panicking. That's just as important as learning any stroke or to float.

This information is spot on. Where I live we deal with rip currents weekly. Too many people have died trying to save others. Look at the beach and the flow of water, the trough of water in between large breaks is a good sign of a rip. Study this before your trip to the beach

We have horrible rip currents at our beach in Indiana on Lake Michigan when the winds come from the north. Several people ignore the red flags and drown here every year. It's so sad.

I got caught in one and it was scary… I didn’t know what was happening just that when I swam I wasn’t moving. We let the current take us and ended up over a half a mile down the beach. 😳

This is why Black people in the Caribbean typically stay out of the ocean, even if they can swim. Tons of stories if people dying just like this, RIP Theo.

Thank you! I know these things and remind myself every single time I get in the ocean. I’m a very strong swimmer but I’ve been caught and it happens so fast. Staying calm is key!!!

I went to Virginia and the Outer Banks three weeks ago. The water was very rough because of storms that were moving in of the night. They were gigantic waves coming in. I can see how someone can get caught in the tide.
