Martha Wash was the unmistakable voice behind “Gonna Make You Sweat (Everybody Dance Now)” — a song that helped define early ’90s dance music. Her vocals were everywhere, yet her face was nowhere to be found. At the time, the producers of C+C Music Factory chose to use a different model to lip-sync her vocals in the music video and during live performances, leaving Wash uncredited and unseen despite carrying the song. Wash took legal action for misrepresentation and false endorsement, ultimately settling the case. The outcome became a turning point in music history, leading to mandatory vocal credit requirements on music videos and CDs in the United States — protecting artists from being erased behind their own voices. Her case didn’t just reclaim her identity. It reshaped how the industry credits singers forever. #MusicHistory #90sMusic #DanceMusic #IndustryChange #MarthaWash Reposted from @songsthatshouldnotwork
