Yes, they got a complaint from someone so they investigated it and if a cop asks for you ID you must provide it (Hiibel v Sixth)

as a lawyer he should have just let them run it and not said anything and bring it up in court. ya, running someone's name through the state/federal system as an officer/corrections officer absent a crime is a very big no no, been about 10years since I've had to deal with missouris system but it's either a felony or federal charge to do so.
